Mercedes-Benz may lead the race of driverless cars with F015 which will fulfill the promise of luxury, style and automation. Currently, what seems to be a research vehicle will be the future of luxury. According to Daimler CEO, Dieter Zetsche, rendering a vehicle to reach destination without human interruption is the core pillar of what the word luxury stands for.
The F015 is developing beyond its role as a mere means of transport. The vehicle will become mobile lounge in which people would do their homework, conduct business meetings or sleep all the way through journey without a driver.
The car is provisioned with variable seating system with four electrically powered rotating chairs. They allow face-to-face setting and even swing outward by 30 degrees as soon as the doors are opened. Passengers will be able to interact with the car via six display screens put together into the instrument panel and the rear and side panels. Moreover, there will be gesture commands, voice commands and a steering wheel, if you feel like driving yourself.
We understand men and cars form master and slave relationship, but the future cars will be more of a partnership where the driver will be mere a user. There are no negative implementations apart from some ethical questions that are usually posed on every new discovery. For all we know drivers may lose their jobs.
