Top Green Cars in 2012 – These Cars Are Sure To Save You Some Green!

2012 is going to be a very “green” year.  With zero-emission cars, electric cars, and  the most advanced hybrid cars, there will be something for everybody!  So for all of those out there who are looking for the perfect Eco-friendly car, you are probably wondering what car is the best.  Am I right?  What car gets the best gas mileage and will save me the most money?  Well after extensive research, I have found some of the top green cars of 2012.  Let’s have a look!

2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI

This diesel powered machine is a perfect, family friendly, car. The Passat TDI gets 42 mpg of the highway, and 30 mpg in the city.  Although those numbers are not astonishing, they are impressive none the less.  Car and Driver tested this car, and they were able to go 670 miles on just one tank of gas.  They also noted that the car was a very good highway driver because it was very easy over bumps and expansion joints.  If you are going to get this car, be sure to get a dual-clutch manual transmission because the automatic is very awkward.

2012 Toyota Prius v

2012 Toyota Prius v

Ahh yes, the Prius. One of the first cars to start it all.  The big revolution towards fuel efficient cars began with the Prius.  Even after many years of production, Toyota is still improving this car.  The 2012 Prius v averages about 44 mpg on the highway and 40 mpg in the city.  The greatest improvement with the 2012 Prius is the increase in cargo capacity.  With the rear seats down, the Prius v offers 67.3 cubic feet of room.  That is equal to 98 paper grocery bags!  With the rear seats up, there is still an impressive 34.3 cubic feet of space behind them.  That is about 3.5 cubic feet more than a Ford Escape Hybrid.  With more cargo room in the Prius v, the possibilities are endless.  This is the perfect car for those road trip junkies.

2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas

2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas

The Honda Civic Natural Gas won the 2012 Green Car of the Year Award at the L.A. Auto Show.  Honda means business with this car.  Although the most expensive Civic of the “Civic Family”, it is definitely one of the most unique.  The 2012 Civic Natural Gas runs on compressed natural gas and gets about 38 mpg on the highway.  Compared to other fuel-efficient cars that number is mediocre, but the Civic Natural Gas is the cleanest of all the options.  This is was built for environmentalists in mind.  Anybody who does not want to rely on foreign oils should get this car.  Another unique option that this Civic has is a driver assistance program, which coaches the driver for more “fuel-efficient driving”.   That is definitely a unique option that sets the Civic Natural Gas about many other eco-friendly cars.

2012 Volvo V60

2012 Volvo V60

This a diesel and electric hybrid car that has all wheel drive capabilities. Volvo claims that this car can go about 930 miles on just on tank of gas.  That is insane!  No other car can compare to that.  I want to go out and buy the Volvo V60 for this reason alone.  In addition to having such incredible gas mileage, the V60 also has a very pleasing design.  It is definitely one of the more attractive eco-friendly cars.  Instead having the dreaded “bubbled” look, the V60 has a very angular body, with a sporty chassis.  The 2012 Volvo V60 is definitely a great buy for anybody who wants a dependable green car.

Green cars are all over the headlines these days. Every company is trying to outmatch the other, and because of that the world of green cars will continue to grow. These cars are here to stay and will shape the future of this world.  Well that completes my list of the top green cars of 2012. What did you think?
