Amazon Introduces Smaller, Lighter Kindle

This is it. You heard it first here. Print is dead. Close down the bookstores and libraries. This newest Kindle will change the world. OK, maybe not, but  Amazon has still outdone itself again, releasing two new Kindle versions with new features and a smaller form factor. As is Amazonian tradition, the newest Kindle fails to have a version number associated with it, but in case you are counting, this is generation three. Kindle 3 is 21 percent smaller but still maintains the 6-inch reading area of generation 2. It is also 17 percent lighter (in weight that is), and introduces a new E-Ink screen that displays 50 percent better contrast....

Fortunately, there are a variety ways to get Internet content, from movies to the latest songs, playing on your home theater. Some methods are easy as purchasing a box, while others are more complex but offer a wider range of customizable options. This list should help...

Study: Only 0.3% of BitTorrent Files Are Legal

A new study by the University of Ballarat in Australia has confirmed what the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) have been telling us all along, that nearly all of the content being shared through the BitTorrent protocol is illegal copyrighted material. The study looked at 23 torrent trackers (services that provide torrent clients with the information necessary to connect to peers and download chunks of the files). From those trackers, they sampled 1,000 files, chosen "randomly" from the most actively seeded files (seeing a problem with this yet?). Much to almost ...

Google Pulls the Plug on the Nexus One

The phone that would change the way phones were used has reached its end, at least in the U.S.  The Nexus One, Google's flagship device, just took its last trip to Google headquarters in the U.S. While the phone will continue to sell in Europe and parts of Asia, the concept of a powerful, unlocked smartphone was not enough to raise sales to the level Google had hoped. With many users already locked into one or even two-year contracts with one of the major U.S. carriers, an unlocked phone may have just been unrealistic. The phone was very popular in "geek" crowds, but the average consumers, many of whom are accustomed to purchasi...
