HTC Evo 4G
Sprint certainly knows how to advertise, and they probably picked the right phone to push their new 4G service. The HTC Evo 4G is an Android-powered phone that features a 4.3-inch touch screen, two cameras (because you shouldn’t have to turn a phone around–ever), a feature called “leap” for multitasking, a kickstand (just to be cool), and 4G service (where available, 3G otherwise).
All of that and more convinced thousands of people to line up outside of Sprint stores, prior to opening, in anticipation for Friday’s release.
“HTC EVO 4G is a clear winner for customers with the powerful combination of an amazing multimedia experience in 3G coverage areas that becomes even better in our growing number of 4G markets. It is terrific to see customers react so positively to this device and the innovative experience it brings to them,” Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO, excitedly proclaimed.
The result on Friday was a record-breaking sales event. The previous sprint sales records were held by the Samsung Instinct and the Palm Pre. The new HTC EVO 4G sold three times as many handsets as the Instinct and Pre combined.
Much of the remainder of the press release about HTC EVO is filled with raving reviews and customer testimonials. Apparently, this phone is pretty good, and the inclusion of 4G, which Sprint says is 10 times faster than 3G, is icing on the cake for Sprint customers. For Sprint and Google, the company responsible for the Android platform that powers the EVO, the icing is that much sweeter.
