Looks like all the excitement that surrounded the unveiling of Google Wallet Mobile Payment Plans has come to a standstill. PayPal sued Google just hours after Google made public, its tap-to-pay technology on a smartphone – the Google Wallet.
PayPal Sues Google
PayPal sued Google and two of its executives, Osama Bedier and Stephanie Tilenius. According to PayPal, these two executives, who were at Google’s press conference for the unveiling of Google Wallet, were employed at PayPal not so long ago.
PayPal alleges that they betrayed the company with intellectual theft that led to the creation of Google Wallet.
Google, on the verge of entering the world of a smartphone that replaces the wallet for carrying debit cards and credit cards; now has a legal battle to fight with the biggest online payment service, PayPal.
The main person in PayPal’s 28-page complaint is Osama Bedier. The lawsuit claims that Google hired Bedier only four months back just to get PayPal’s trade secrets out of him for its new phone wallet service.
PayPal also claims that Beidier had stored PayPal’s mobile payment strategy on his personal computer before joining Google. Stephanie Tilenius, Google’s vice president of commerce is named in the suit as the person who joined Google first and instigated Bedier to join too.
PayPal’s blog reads, “Sometimes the behaviors of people and competitors make legal action the only meaningful way for a company to protect one of its most valuable assets – its trade secrets,”
Google has nothing to say yet and the company’s spokesperson said that they need time to review the suit.
