Bed and Breakfast

Finally, you get a big break from work and what better way to spend it than at your dream destination? You’ve always wanted to explore the world, you say, but have never gotten around to do that until now. You can’t be any less than excited and you start to imagine the beautiful things you will experience, the many sites to visit, the exotic food and all that. Then at the end of the day, you dream of a homey atmosphere to relax your nerves and soothe your tired feet.

Well, you can be at whatever part of the globe you want, but if you’re looking for a place to retire to at night that closely resembles your own home (and one that’s priced within reason), then there’s one thing you need – a Bed Breakfast! Besides, though you may have saved enough for the trip, it doesn’t seem wise to splurge it all on expensive hotel accommodations, does it?

Indeed, a B&B experience can make all the difference in your travel, assuming of course that you stumble on the right one.

Before going any further, though, it should be emphasized that Bed and Breakfasts do not operate like hotels with plenty of staff, a doorman, and a concierge. They won’t allow you to party the whole night through, play loud music or disturb other guests in any way. You can’t stay out very late in the night, either. When you check in you will normally be told the time the B&B closes its doors, so make sure that you get in by that time. If you can’t, then at least let your host know beforehand.

While the general idea is that B&Bs have a cozy and romantic feel, you have to understand that not all Bed and Breakfasts are the same, especially not in terms of price and accommodation. It is just as important, therefore, that you do a research of all the Bed and Breakfast options you can have before booking yourself.

How and where do you begin? All the major search engines on the World Wide Web are effective tools to help you find the right B&B for you. Simply key in the words bed and breakfast plus the name of the city or town you intend to visit and hit enter. You will then see how many Bed and Breakfasts are operating in that area. It helps to make a checklist of all the features and amenities you want the B&B to come with. Then take time to virtually visit each of your options and see which one suits your preferences the most.

So what exactly makes an ideal Bed and Breakfast? It should have a private bath, to begin with, plus an air-conditioning or temperature control system, and laundry and housekeeping services on a daily basis. It’s pretty obvious that B&Bs serve breakfast, but usually it is at a pre-arranged time, like 8am for instance. All guests are therefore expected to be down at the hall or wherever breakfast will be served around that time. Come lunch and dinner time, you are well on your own.

Security is also very important, as is the location. After all, it just does not make sense to stay someplace that will take you hours to get to where all the action is. On the other hand, you may not want to stay too close to the main streets because of the noise and all.

Do the décor and interiors make a lot of difference? Unfortunately, they do for quite a lot of picky tourists. If you happen to be one, then see if there are websites that can give you a virtual tour of their place. If a virtual tour is not possible, there ought to be, at the very least, photos of the interiors to enable you to have a feel of the place without actually being there yet.

Ironically, in spite of the cozy and warm atmosphere one can experience at a typical Bed and Breakfast, it’s not really designed for kids, especially young kids. So if you want to travel with a toddler in tow, you may want to keep this in mind, but don’t hesitate to ask, anyway. After all, for all you know, there may be some B&Bs that allow children who are at a certain age.

Bed and Breakfasts are great options if you want to unwind, or get away from all the noise and stresses of everyday life. They are more than just a place to spend the night in. You get a more personalized service, and you get to save a lot, too. It’s always important to do your research well, though, because ultimately the quality of your stay depends on your choice of Bed and Breakfast. Do take time to explore the Web for possibilities – they’re all just a click of the mouse away, after all.
