2018 Land Rover Discovery
Land Rover has released preview images of the 2018 Land Rover Discovery, which is set to make its first worldwide public appearance at this year’s Paris Motor Show. A much-awaited replacement for the Land Rover LR4, no technical details have been revealed about the latest Discovery. Nevertheless, the preview images divulge that the SUV will lose its boxy look for a more aggressive styling.
The Discovery nameplate was dropped by Land Rover in 2005 and replaced by the alphanumeric LR3, which was later revamped and upgraded to the LR4. This was in line with Land Rover’s strategy to use the Discovery nameplate for lower-range SUVs and Range Rover for luxury SUVs. The Discovery Sport revealed in 2014 marked the startup for the Discovery lineup.
The latest Discovery SUV is certainly not expected to be as utilitarian as the 3-door model that was launched in 1989. It bears a distinct resemblance to the Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept unveiled at the 2014 New York Auto Show and coupled with the prototype test mule spied in Europe, it is safe to assume that the 2018 Land Rover Discovery will come with a number of features introduced in the Vision Concept.
The 3-row (7-seater) 2018 Land Rover Discovery is expected to compete with the likes of Mercedes Benz GLE Class, the BMW X5 and the Volvo XC90. The smaller Discovery Sport, on the other hand, targets its respective market segment rivaling the Volvo XC60 and BMW X3.
