Honda’s East Liberty Plant Produces 4 Millionth Vehicle

The year 2010 seems to be going great for Honda. It was only earlier this year that the company set all-time fiscal year record for automobile production in Asia and China. On Friday, 29th October, Honda added another feather on its cap as its East Liberty Auto Plant completed the production of 4 million vehicles.

The said assembly plant opened in East Liberty in Ohio, United States, in the year 1989. Till date, it has manufactured a number of automobiles including a variety of passenger cars, light trucks and CNG (compressed natural gas) vehicles.

As per statistics, the East Liberty plant has already surpassed its 2009 auto manufacturing record. It has already produced 200,000 vehicles so far in 2010. This beats the production figures for the same period in 2009. Together with the Marysville plant, the East Liberty plant has so far produced over 490,000 passenger cars and light trucks in Ohio in 2010. At present, 2,400 associates are employed in the plant. A total of 14,000 workers are employed in all four Honda plants in Ohio.

The manufacturing capabilities of the East Liberty plant come as no surprise. In recent years the plant has undergone a number of renovations. This has made it more efficient and capable of handling large-scale productions. This was evident when it manufactured the Accord Crosstour in 2009. It was the largest and heaviest vehicle to come out of the East Liberty plant. The quality of the vehicles has also earned good name to the plant. The J.D. Power and Associates’ 2010 Initial Quality Survey shows the plant in the 6th spot. Honda has called its East Liberty wing as “one of the most productive vehicle assembly plants in North America.”

A 2011 Honda-CR-V crossover became the 4 millionth automobile to come out of the East Liberty plant.
