How To Make Your Employees Feel More Valued

Your business is nothing without your employees. The best will take your business to new heights – they will come up with the ideas and strategies that help you see success. It is for these great employees that you need to do more as an employer. Giving them a paycheck simply isn’t enough. You need to make them feel valued, and you need to create a strong company culture in order to keep employee retention high. Build Them a Better Break Room:

Breaks are key to better productivity. The better the break, the more they can work efficiently at their desks. If their break room is poor or you encourage them to be at their desks at all times, you only encourage them to take “mini” breaks in front of the computer, which could hamper their productivity streak. Instead, build them a break room. If your office doesn’t have a room designated for breaks, set aside a corner. Put in a few couches, a table, and add in a microwave, mini-fridge, toaster oven, kettle, and coffee maker. Offer free snacks, tea, and coffee to help them refuel when they need to.

Reward Milestones:

By setting up a system of milestones, you can ensure that every employee works hard on their own time. If your employee brings in so many clients in a month, click here to reward them with tickets to their favourite artist. If they put in so many overtime hours, give them a long weekend, and so on. Rewards don’t have to be expensive, but they should be thoughtful and they should be based on work, not on how much you like someone. Do this, and all of your employees will work better, consistently.

Improve Communication:

When your employee is talented, and they know it, being ignored or worse, disregarded can do a lot of damage to your relationship. That is why you need to work on creating a culture of communication in your company. Set aside an hour out of your day where you have an open-door policy for employees to use to talk to you one-on-one. Have weekly meetings where you debate and brainstorm together in an open and productive way. Respond to all emails promptly, and so on. The more effectively you communicate, the better.

Have a Strong Anti-Harassment Policy:

If your company does not already have an anti-harassment policy, create one. If you do have one, but it is outdated or you created it by yourself, consider updating it. Work with your employees so that you can cover all areas of harassment, but remember you do have final say. Generally, your anti-harassment policy should outline behaviours not allowed and the repercussions involved. Create a safe and secure means for victims to report any abuse and a timeline and method the allegation will be looked in to.

Making your employees feel like their work and opinion are valued is key to employee retention. Combine this with rewards and benefits that any business, big or small business, can provide, and you’ll have created a great company culture.
