York was the Chairman, President and also the CEO of Harwinton Capital and he had joined Apple’s Board of Directors in the year 1997. This man was the former CFO of the company IBM and also of Chrysler – he was also the former Vice Chairman of Tracinda. Both the companies Chrysler and IBM give him great credit for his contributions during their turnarounds.
Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple, said that Jerry had lent his financial and business expertise to Apple in many ways; he had joined the Board of Apple in 1997, when the company’s future was still being doubted by many. For over a dozen years, Jerry was on the company’s Board, and became a pillar of standing. Steve Jobs is quoted as saying that it was a privilege to know and work with Jerry, and that he will miss him a lot.
Jerry York was born in 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee. He had graduated from the United States Military Academy, and then received an MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then an MBA from the University of Michigan. After getting training as an engineer, York worked up through the company Chrysler to become a CFO.
Jerry York’s death has become news all over the world, and many are mourning the loss of a great man was inspirational in many ways. He will be sorely missed.
