The Apple Company is well known for its pioneering devices in the area of communication and entertainment. First there was the Apple II, followed by the Macintosh computer. Most recently, there was the iPod craze soon after which came the iPhone. Apple’s iPhone set the bar for all other touch screen phones that followed in its wake. So, when Apple announced their latest gadget, the iPad, the tech-savvy population of the world waited with eager anticipation for the device to be released in the market.

So, on the 5th of April 2010, when Apple announced its sales for the iPad, it wasn’t surprising to hear that more then three hundred thousand devices had been sold in the United States on Friday, the 2nd of April. On the very first day of the iPad’s release, more than a million applications and well over 250,000 ebooks were downloaded from the Apple App Store and the iBookstore respectively. These numbers are expected to keep rising, and there’s no reason to imagine there could be a decline anytime soon.

The iPad combines the best features of a computer with the portability and ease-of-use of an ebook reader, providing users with a thoroughly engaging multi-media experience. It’s certain that the iPad has a long way to go – thanks to the possibility of downloading media onto it from the internet, the potential for user-developed apps is endless.
