Photo of Samsung’s Virtual Reality Headset Leaked – Report

Samsung’s “Gear VR”, a collaboration between the aforementioned and Oculus VR has been the source of anticipation and assumptions in the technology circle for a while now. The assumptions were given credence (remains to be seen if true or false though) by SamMobile which has allegedly published an image of the said gear. The virtual reality headset may be launched at Samsung’s IFA 2014 conference due in September.

According to SamMobile, the head gear will work by hooking it to a Samsung Galaxy smartphone through a USB 3.0 dock, which is not visible in the image. The overall design shown in the image makes Gear VR seems a little bulky and unwieldy, but it’s only a rendering and that too is the side view.

What is apparent from the photo is the built in touchpad which will serve dual functionality:

  1. It will let users get a view of the outside world minimizing disorientation
  2. It will allow users to control the Gear VR’s software.

The launch of Gear VR is rumored to be accompanied by an assortment of supportive apps as well as a Software Development Kit (SDK) for developers. According to SamMobile, the launch of Gear VR could be accompanied with unveiling of Galaxy Note 4. The cost of Gear VR remains shrouded in mystery so far.
