Nissan has been trying to attract more fans and racers around the world with the 2013 version of GT Academy gamer to racer competition. This online competition that is developed by Nissan and PlayStation together has become the biggest and best competition available on the internet so far. The competition is played on a specially designed demo version of the forthcoming Gran Turismo 6 game and has attracted more than 600,000 participants from more than 18 countries in Europe including Russia. The GT Academy qualifying demo will remain opened until July 28 and therefore there are plenty of drivers that can try their hands on this online competition.
Nissan and PlayStation believe that there are many racer drivers that will download the demo from the PlayStation Store and enter the GT Academy. The competition has already developed Driver Development Program that has achieved two class podiums in the famous Le Mans 24 Hour race for the previous winners so the stakes are really high this time. The competition leader board also shows that Spain is taking the lead at the moment and so far they have 41 fastest drivers in the 250 entries that have happened in last two weeks.
The overall best lap time was recorded in the tuned Nissan 370Z at 2:16:516 while the lap in the virtual car was 14 seconds slower than the 2012 GT Academy champions recorded at Silverstone while racing the real Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 race car in the Blancpain Endurance race. Nissan has announced that anybody with a Sony Entertainment Network account and access to PlayStation 3 can get connected to the internet and download the demo version from PlayStation Store without any requirement for the ownership of Gran Turismo game. The GT Academy is open to all the players that have 18 years of age and above but there are other terms and conditions that also apply to the game. Nissan has also announced that while the game demo will end on July 28 they will still bring in more demo challenges and cars in the future to keep their fans happy and allow them to try their hands on better gaming version.
